West Tanzania, 390 km far from Kigoma, 40 km east of Lake Tanganyika

Access

Difficult. Charter flight with a small, bush-compatible light aircraft - three-hours flight to Katavi from Dar es Salaam or two-hours flight from Mwanza.

Characteristic

4 471 km2; a very remote park. Flat to slightly undulated area lying at the bottom of the Rift Valley and the bordering rift valley shoulders - altitude 820 - 960 m. The park encompasses the Katuma River and the seasonal Lake Katavi and Lake Chada floodplains. Typical ecosystems: semi-arid bushy savannah, freshwater ecosystems (rivers, lakes, waterfalls), flooded plains, extensive seasonal wetlands. True wilderness.
