Access

Easy. Only about one hour drive from Kilimanjaro airport.

Characteristic

1,688 km2; The park includes the whole of Mount Kilimanjaro above the tree line and the surrounding montane forest belt above 1,830 metres. National park altitude: 1 830 – 5 895 m - massif of the Kilimanjaro mountain - giant stratovolcano consisting of three extinct volcanoes. Typical ecosystems: mountain forest (temperate zone forest), alpine biotopes, volcanic biotopes, mountain moorland, crater lake. Five different vegetation zones.

Possible activities

Kilimanjaro

Relatively easy ascend to the summit - 6 different tracks. Many trekking paths in lower elevations. World's highest summit that can be climbed without technical equipment.

Trout fishing

Visit the beautiful Chala crater lake on the mountain’s southeastern slopes.

Note

Best time to visit XII-II and VIII-X.

The park is in the UNESCO List of World Natural Heritage

Highest freestanding mountain in the world.
