Localization
South Tanzania, about 100 km from Mbea town.
Access
Quite difficult. From Chimala south along the rough but spectacular dirt road only by off-road vehicle.
Characteristic
413 km2, Mountain plateau in the altitude of 2 600 m - part of Tanzania's Southern Highlands. The protected area includes the Kitulo Plateau and the adjoining Livingstone Forest between the peaks of the Kipengere and Poroto mountains. The well-watered volcanic soils of Kitulo support the largest and most important montane grassland community in Tanzania. This national park has been established primarily for the protection of its flora. Typical ecosystems: cloud forest, mountain grassland, wetlands and alpine biotopes.

Very good conditions for trekking - a network of trekking paths. Walking across mountain grassland.
Hill climbing and hiking on the neighbouring ranges.

Best time to visit: XII-IV all flowers in blossom, IX-XI dry season suitable for walking
There is no accommodation in the park as yet, but very basic accommodation and meals are available at the adjacent Kitulo Farm.
