Localization
Northeast Tanzania, about 200 km northwest from Dar es Salaam
Access
Easy except rainy season. By car about 4 hours’ drive from Dar es Salaam via Chalinze. Zanzibar is about 40 km away from the Park. Transfer by airplane can be arranged to Mkwaja or Saadani airstrip.
Characteristic
1 062 km2; Stripe of a flat landscape along the coast of the Indian Ocean. The only Tanzanian sanctuary bordering the sea. It offers a unique combination of both marine and mainland flora and fauna. Typical ecosystems: sea and sea coast, wetlands, freshwater ecosystems, dry forest, grasslands, mangroves, salines, sand dunes.

Roads are sometimes impassable in IV-V.
Saadani Village is worth a visit as it used to be an important centre of the slave trade in the 19th century.
