Central Tanzania; about 65 km southwest from Mikumi, 350 km from Dar es Salaam

Access

Quie easy. To drive from Dar es Salaam, take the Morogoro road and continue for around 4 hours through Chalinze, Morogoro and Mikumi National Park to Mikumi town. From Mikumi town, to Ifakara.

Characteristic

1 990 km2; Walking park only! Mountain range about 130 km long which is a part of the Eastern Arc Mountains and its surroundings. Rainfall up to 2000 mm per year on Eastern slopes. National park altitude is 250 – 2 600 m. It has the second largest biodiversity of a national park in Africa. The park has high density of endemic plant and animal species. Typical ecosystems: tropical rain forest, cloud forest, miombo woodlands, forested savanna, grassland.

The park has no roads and is accessible only on foot.

Accommodation for visitors within the park is only possible on a camping basis
