Localization
East Java, southeast of Surabaya and east of Malang.
Access
Easy. From Malang to Ranu Pani about 70 minutes by car and then proceed ascend on foot.
Characteristic
503 km2; Mountainous region of volcanic origin in altitude between 1000-3676 m. Three active and two extinct volcanoes, incl. the highest mountain of Java Gunung Semeru - 3 676 m. Tengger Sand Sea, at the bottom of the ancient volcano caldera (Tengger) from which four new volcanic cones have emerged. This unique feature covers a total area of 5,250 hectares at an altitude of about 2,100 m. Typical ecosystems: volcanic biotopes, tropical rain forest, mountain and subalpine ecosystems.
