Localization
Southeast Sulawesi; about 120 km from Kendari.
Access
Quite easy. It can be reached from Kendari through three main roads - 2-4 hours driving.
Characteristic
1,052 km2; Flat area at the coast, more inland undulated to mountainous landscape with steep slopes - from sea level to the altitude of 981 m. The water flows out of the national park through the Konaweha River and Aopa River and through their tributaries. Aopa Swamp is the largest peat swamp in Sulawesi Island. Typical ecosystems: tropical rain forest, sub-montane rain forest, grasslands, freshwater ecosystems, wetlands, peat swamps, mangroves and sea coast. The savanna vegetation is unique, being a combination of grassy plains with fan palms, thorny bamboo, bushes and other plants growing along the rivers. The Park is an important stopover for migratory waterbirds.
