Characteristic
1080 km2; Part of a mountain range running along western coast of Sumatra. Park´s altitude varies from 300 to 2145 m above sea level with the highest point of Mt. Sorik Merapi volcano (2145 m). Typical ecosystems: tropical rain forest, mountain ecosystems lower than 4000 m and freshwater ecosystems (mainly rivers).

The protection of Batang Gadis as a national park is part of a plan to create the Northern Sumatra biodiversity conservation corridor.
