Characteristic

2051 km2; Flat coastal area (altitude 0-500 m) covered by huge mangrove forests (77,500 hectares). Mangroves reach up to 35 km far from the coast in some places. The national park is characterized by fingery drainage pattern with more than 30 rivers. Huge numbers of migrant birds from Siberia can be seen in Sembilang, reaching a climax in October. The northwestern part borders with the Berbak National Park. Typical ecosystems: tropical rain forest, riparian forest, mangroves, freshwater swamps, coastal biotopes, freshwater ecosystems..
