Localization
Southeast Sri Lanka, 250 km southeast of Colombo and 15 km east of Hambantota.
Access
Easy. About 5 hours drive from Colombo mostly along a highway, only a few minutes from Hambantota.
Characteristic
6216 ha; Flat area along the sea shore in semi-arid zone. The highest point is only 10 meters above the sea level. Great biodiversity of water and coastal animal and plant species. Important wintering site for migrant birds from East Asia. Typical ecosystems: dry bushy woodlands, five large lagoons with brackish water (33% park area), salt pans; sea and sea coast, inter-tidal mudflats and sand dunes.
