Northern Sri Lanka, at the base of the Jaffna Peninsula, 12 km north east of Kilinochchi.

Access

Easy. 15 km drive from A9 rd junction at Elephant Pass towards Kaddaikadu.

Characteristic

196 km2; Large Chundikkulam Lagoon with brackish water and its surrounding area only a few meters above the sea level. Large areas of the lagoon dry out during the dry season. Numerous small streams enter the lagoon along its southern shore. Typical ecosystems: dry scrub forest, semidesert, freshwater ecosystems, brackish lagoon, salt marshes, mudflats, mangroves, sand dunes.
