Localization
Eastern part of Central Sri Lanka, 288 north east of Colombo
Access
.Easy. Main access from the north is from Manampitiya (25 Km) located on the Polonnaruwa-Batticaloa highway.
Characteristic
588 km2; Flat to undulating plain, disturbed by many prominent remnants of erosion (rock outcrops) and ridges. Dominant topographic feature is the 8 kilometres long range of rocky mountains of the south-west of the park. Most of the park lies between 30 and 150 m, the highest point is 686 m asl. Water systems of the park made up 15% of the land area, include five reservoirs (both - natural and artificial ones). Typical ecosystems: dry evergreen forest, grasslands, freshwater ecosystems, wetlands.
