Localization
South East Sri Lanka; 170 km south east from Colombo
Access
Easy. On Pelmadulla-Timbolketiya A18 road, 11km from Timbolketiya.
Characteristic
308 km2; Udawalawe lies on the boundary of Sri Lanka's wet and dry zones just south of the Central Highlands. Open parkland landscape - plains and foothills (from 100 to 383 m above the sea level). Ulgala, in the west of the park, is the most prominent peak. The park is situated around the artificial water reservoir Udawalawe (3400 ha). Typical ecosystems: grasslands, gallery forests along river banks, dry evergreen forests, wetlands and freshwater ecosystems. Abandoned teak plantations inside the park area.
