Localization

North Chile. 175 km east of Iquique.

Access

Easy, directly from Iquique along a good road.

Characteristic

1,600 km²; High mountains salt flat with average altitude about 3,800 meters above sea levels dotted with ponds and salt marshes, and seasonally partially covered with water. Climate is desertic and very dry. Typical ecosystems: high mountains desert, salinas, wetlands.

Note

Archaelogical sites - some ruins of the Tiahuanaco pre-Inca culture.
